Myanmar is an increasingly popular tourist destination, and many tourists visit every year. To travel to Myanmar, you need to apply for a visa. Why not opt for the electronic visa or e-Visa? How do you obtain an e-Visa and what documents do you need to provide if you are French?

Applying for an e-Visa

The e-Visa is a simplified procedure introduced by the Burmese authorities to make applications easier and save applicants time. To obtain an e-Visa, all you have to do is go online and carefully fill in the application form.

This process was introduced in September 2014 and is a simple, as well as functional, way to visit Myanmar legally. Faster than a traditional visa application, the e-Visa does not require you to go to an embassy (sometimes a long way from your home, as most embassies are in Paris) and have to wait for long hours in an interminable queue.

Once the application has been sent and validated by the Burmese authorities, if it is accepted, the e-Visa will be sent to you by e-mail within a few days. You must then print it out and take it with you on the day of your departure for Myanmar. The visa is sent within three working days of the application.

Expect to pay around 47 € consular fee for the e-Visa. The visa is valid for 3 months from the date of application, so don't apply too early! It allows a maximum stay of 28 days.

What about specialist agencies?

The e-Visa application form is entirely in English. You should therefore follow the application process carefully, especially if your English is not very good. If you're worried about getting it right or making mistakes that could cost you your e-Visa, there are agencies that specialise in e-Visa applications.

These agencies act as intermediaries between you and the Burmese authorities and are responsible for filling in the application form with the information you provide. The agency also sends you your e-Visa by e-mail once your application has been accepted. For a small fee, you can enjoy a fast, efficient service that will help you organise your stay in Myanmar with complete peace of mind!

French nationals: compulsory supporting documents

To obtain your e-Visa, if you are a French national, it is absolutely essential to have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of your entry into Myanmar. This passport must also contain blank pages (at least one full page) for affixing your entry permit.

If you are travelling with your children, they must have their own passport, whatever their age. Permission to leave the country is no longer required if the child is travelling with one or both parents. If the child is travelling with a parent whose name he or she does not bear, you will need to prove parentage or present an exit permit signed and completed by the other parent, together with a copy of his or her identity card.
